It was a time when one absurd empire crumbled, and our newfound independence came with the haze of our first cigarettes. A time when movies weren’t watched but relived through stories we told one another. Access to the world was scarce, but our teenage imaginations were boundless. One day we were robbers; the next, elves and gnomes. A stick picked up in the morning transformed effortlessly into a magic staff, a gun, or a hockey stick by sundown.
Who could have guessed that one day a stick might actually shoot? That childhood would end? That friendships could fade away? That war would come?
And yet, despite it all, we are still here—alive, and (spoiler alert!) there’s even a happy ending.
